Domaine Tempier 2020 La Tourtine Bandol Rouge

The Domaine Tempier 2020 “La Tourtine” Bandol Rouge is a majestic expression of Bandol—rich and textured yet beautifully refined. With a backbone of deep Mourvèdre, a tapestry of Provençal herbs, bramble fruit and minerality, this wine balances power and elegance and promises many years of rewarding evolution.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Crafted by Domaine Tempier in the Bandol appellation of Provence, France, this single-vineyard release comes from the “La Tourtine” parcel—small in size, planted predominantly to Mourvèdre, with supporting plantings of Grenache and Cinsault. The vines sit on clay–limestone soils with strong Provençal sun and the influence of the Mediterranean breeze. For the 2020 vintage, the blend is approximately 80% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache and 10% Cinsault. The wine is aged in large oak foudres (and a portion of barriques) for about 18-20 months, allowing richness and structure to unfold while preserving a distinct sense of terroir.

Tasting Profile

Nose: A beguiling mix of black raspberry, currant and mulberry, woven with licorice root, garrigue herbs (wild thyme, rosemary) and violet, layered with subtle graphite, crushed stone and a hint of blood orange peel.
Palate: Medium-to-full bodied with concentrated dark fruit—blackberry, black cherry—balanced by vivid acidity and structured chalky tannins. Savory touches of smoked meat, peppercorn and forest floor weave through the fruit, while the mineral core gives the wine a refined tensile strength.
Finish: Long and lingering—brambly fruit fades into fine tannin, dry herbs and saline-stone undertones, leaving a lasting impression of Provençal complexity and ageing potential.
