Ransom Old Tom Gin
A rich revival of a pre‑Prohibition classic, Ransom Old Tom Gin blends malted warmth with botanical grace—perfect for cocktail nostalgia or savoring on its own.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Crafted in Oregon by Ransom Spirits in collaboration with historian David Wondrich, this Old Tom Gin is resurrected from a 19th-century recipe. It begins with a malted barley‑based wort, combined with corn spirit infused with six botanicals—juniper, orange peel, lemon peel, coriander seed, cardamom pods, and angelica root. These components are co‑distilled in a copper pot still. The select “heart of the hearts” distillate is then aged 3–6 months in barrel before bottling—resulting in the first American Old Tom Gin since Prohibition.
Tasting Profile
-
Aroma & Flavor: Seductive juniper and coastal forest notes lead into apothecary spices—cardamom and angelica—layered over a gentle malt sweetness.
-
Palate: Rich and silky, delivering malt-forward depth punctuated by lively citrus zest and exotic coriander and teakiness.
-
Finish: Warm, elegant, and long—botanicals remain clean and focused atop a nuanced, balanced foundation.
Cocktail & Serving Uses
True to its revivalist spirit, this gin is the ultimate ingredient for classic pre‑Prohibition cocktails like the Martinez, Tom Collins, or a brighter take on the Martini. It also stands beautifully on its own, especially when served neat or with large ice.
