Ardbeg Corryvreckan Scotch Whisky
Ardbeg Corryvreckan is a bold and intense Islay single malt—ferocious yet elegant, with peat smoke, sea air and dark fruit complexity layered into a dramatic whisky experience. It’s a whisky for deep engagement rather than casual sipping.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Distilled at the Ardbeg Distillery on the island of Islay, Scotland, Corryvreckan draws its name from the powerful whirlpool that churns between the islands of Scarba and Jura. The spirit is matured primarily in ex-bourbon barrels and incorporates a portion of new French oak, delivering a more pronounced structure and depth than the distillery’s standard expression. It is bottled at high strength (typically around 57% ABV) and has no age statement, with mash bill using 100% malted barley and a heavy peat influence.
Tasting Profile
Nose: Smouldering peat and tar, softened by brine and sea-spray saltiness. Underneath lies dark cherries, blackcurrant, vanilla, and a trace of oak spice and leather.
Palate: Powerful and layered. Peat smoke and charred wood open the palate, then rich dark fruit (plum, black cherry), espresso, licorice and peppery spice enter. The maritime minerality and seaweed-drift complement the sweetness of vanilla and dried orange peel.
Finish: Long, warming and resolutely peaty. Notes of black coffee, smoked salmon, salted caramel, chalky minerals and ash linger. The finish brings substantial complexity and leaves a dramatic impression.
