Dom Benedictine Liqueur

D.O.M. Bénédictine is a refined French herbal liqueur crafted from a secret blend of 27 plants, spices, roots, and flowers, offering a harmonious mix of honeyed sweetness, warm spices, and citrus brightness—ideal for sipping neat, mixing in classic cocktails, or adding depth to culinary creations.

🌿 Heritage & Craft

  • Its origins date to a 1510 monastic elixir by Dom Bernardo Vincelli in Fécamp, Normandy, but commercial production began in 1863 when Alexandre Le Grand revived and refined the recipe from a rediscovered manuscript

  • The name D.O.M. stands for Deo Optimo Maximo ("To God, most good, most great")

  • Today’s recipe, closely guarded and known by just three individuals, blends 27 botanicals—including saffron, angelica, hyssop, juniper, citrus peel, vanilla, cinnamon, myrrh, thyme, and honey—distilled in copper stills and aged up to two years in oak

👃 Aroma & 👄 Flavor

  • Appearance: Rich amber with copper glints

  • Nose: A fragrant bouquet of citrus zest, saffron, cardamom, nutmeg, cloves, cedar, and sage

  • Palate: Velvety sweetness with honey and warm baking spices (ginger, cinnamon, clove), complemented by herbal notes and subtle woodiness .

  • Finish: Long, warming, gently spiced, with lingering mocha, fudge, vanilla, and pine-sap nuances

🍸 Uses & Pairings

  • Neat or on ice: Enjoy fully for contemplative sipping.

  • Classic cocktails: Key in the Bijou, Vieux Carré, or B&B (Benedictine & Brandy), adding honeyed herbal depth

  • Culinary fun: Enhances mulled wine, baked dishes, marinades, or dessert sauces with its complex spice profile.

🎯 Why It’s Special

  • A living link to Renaissance herbal medica, brought forward through elaborate 19th-century revival.

  • A rare spirit with depth and finesse, not sweetness alone—combining botanical elegance with find barrels aging.

  • Suitable for serious spirit enthusiasts and mixologists seeking unique flavor layers.

✅ Final Take

D.O.M. Bénédictine is a culinary-grade herbal elixir—complex, versatile, and steeped in history. Savor it neat, build it into classic cocktails, or experiment in the kitchen—it quietly elevates any occasion.

40% ABV, 750 ml

If you are tired of Old Fashions, make a "Monte Carlo." Two parts Bourbon, one part Benedictine. Stirred or shaken, on the rocks with one large ice cube. It does the trick.

"The bouquet is mesmerizing with multiple layers of fragrances that include pine/cedar, fennel, white pepper, licorice, mace, allspice, sage and rosemary. An orange zest flavor appears at palate entry; midpalate finds exotic tastes of orange zest, tangerine zest, multiple herbs and spices, honey and pine. A fabulous liqueur." Wine Enthusiast 98 Points
