Kilkerran 16 Year Old Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky
The Kilkerran 16 Year Old is a superbly crafted Campbeltown single malt that delivers both character and maturity. With its elegant profile—brimming with citrus, tropical fruits and subtle coastal influence—it strikes a fine balance between richness and finesse. Whether savoured now or cellar-aged further, it stands out as a distinctive and rewarding dram.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Produced at the Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland, Kilkerran is the distillery’s core single malt line. The 16-year old expression marks its longest age-statement in the core range so far. It is matured primarily in ex-bourbon barrels—with a large majority of the casks being American oak bourbon, and a smaller proportion having seen Marsala or Madeira influence—then bottled at 46% ABV. The bottling is non-chill-filtered and in keeping with the Mitchell family’s traditional approach to whisky-making: modest peat, full maturation and attention to terroir.
Tasting Profile
-
Nose: Lively and bright. Offers notes of lemon zest, green apple and fresh pineapple, joined by softer tones of vanilla, shortbread and a gentle hint of sea-spray or coastal brine.
-
Palate: The entry is smooth and medium-bodied, with tropical fruits (think mango or papaya) and more orchard-fruit sweetness. Underneath you’ll find light oak spice, dried apricot, and fine mineral tones. A whisper of peat and salt surf adds character without dominating.
-
Finish: Decent length with a clean, dry lean. Hints of sea salt, hazelnut, faint leather and gentle white-pepper spice linger, leaving you with a well-rounded sense of both maturity and freshness.
