Meikle Toir by GlenAllachie The Sherry One Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

A bold and distinctive Speyside peated malt, The Sherry One marries rich sherry-puncheon depth with a gentle mainland peat smoke to deliver a vibrant and rewarding whisky experience. It stands out as a compelling value for those seeking smoky complexity.

Origins & Craftsmanship
Made at The GlenAllachie Distillery in Speyside under the direction of master distiller Billy Walker, the Meikle Tòir (“big pursuit”) range marks the distillery’s foray into peated single malt production. The Sherry One starts with spirit peated to 35 ppm using mainland peat from St. Fergus. The new-make is fermented over 160 hours—an extended period compared with some peers—to build fruit-forward esters. Initial maturation happens in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, followed by a finishing period in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry puncheons. The dram is bottled at 48% ABV, non-chill-filtered, with natural colour.

Critics Reviews

  • One reviewer for The Whiskey Wash notes: “Sherry and peat notes make a delectable impression… rich aromatics of smoke, dry fig, chocolate brownie, caramel, and toffee crunch.”

  • Another review concludes it “is enhanced by the ex-Oloroso and ex-Pedro Ximénez puncheons… the sweet fruit and smoke dance beautifully; the peated Speyside style punches above its weight.”

Tasting Profile

  • Nose: Warm amber-gold colour; aromas of cedarwood, cigar box, butterscotch and mocha emerge alongside orange peel, honey and plum jam. Soft peat smoke wafts under the surface.

  • Palate: The arrival is rich and enveloping: dark chocolate, smoked honey and mocha precede figs, treacle, burnt sugar and a steady waft of heathery smoke.

  • Finish: Long and textured, with burnt caramel, a hint of star anise and subtle green smoke drifting away, leaving an echo of sweet-soot and dried fruits.
