Chateau Musar 1998 Red Wine Lebanon Bekaa Valley

Château Musar 1998 Red Wine (Bekaa Valley, Lebanon) is a beautifully mature vintage of one of the world’s most singular wines—an expressive blend that combines Mediterranean warmth with Old-World structure and remarkable longevity. Now deeply evolved, the 1998 reveals layers of dried red fruit, spice, leather, and earthy complexity, demonstrating why Musar has become a cult favorite among collectors seeking wines that blur the lines between Bordeaux, Rhône, and something entirely unique.

Origins & Craftsmanship
Château Musar, founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar, is Lebanon’s most internationally celebrated winery. Its vineyards lie in the Bekaa Valley, a high-altitude plateau roughly 1,000 meters above sea level between the Mount Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon mountain ranges. The region’s sunny Mediterranean climate paired with cool nights produces grapes with both ripeness and structure.

The estate’s flagship red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan, sourced from organically farmed vineyards on limestone and gravel soils. Fermentation takes place using indigenous yeasts in concrete vats, followed by about 12 months of aging in French oak barrels, with each grape variety aged separately before blending.

True to the Musar philosophy of minimal intervention, the wine is bottled without fining or filtration and released only after extended bottle aging. This patient maturation is essential to the wine’s identity, allowing the complex interplay of fruit, acidity, tannin, and tertiary aromas to develop slowly over time.

The 1998 vintage has developed the hallmark Musar character: rustic elegance, savory complexity, and remarkable longevity.
