JM Sélèque 2018 Soliste Meunier Rosé Pierry 1er Cru Les Charmiers Extra Brut Champagne

This rosé delivers a rare combination of parcel-driven complexity, Meunier character, and vinous intensity—all shaped by hillside terroir and extended élevage. With its layered fruit, earthy spice, chalky minerality, and savoury structure, it’s a standout Champagne for the epicure seeking depth and terroir expression.

🍇 Terroir & Identity

  • A single‑parcel rosé from the Les Charmiers lieu‑dit in Pierry (Premier Cru), comprising 100 % Pinot Meunier, planted between 1964 and 1971 on a ridge of flinty clay and Campanian chalk soils

  • Vines are exposed to wind (25‑30% slope), bringing freshness and elegance

🛠️ Vinification & Aging

  • Grapes are destemmed and undergo an 18-hour cold maceration on skins, then vinified 100% in 350 L oak barrels

  • Aged for ~10 months on lees, bottled under cork for secondary fermentation, then matured ~4 years on lees before extra‑brut disgorgement (~2 g/L dosage)

  • Production is tiny—~2,000 bottles only

👃 Aromatic Profile

  • Deep, vinous nose with berry fruit (raspberry, red apple), hints of plum, spice, brioche, and subtle smoky/clay notes

  • Floral nuances and a savory mineral edge shine through, offering complexity and depth

👅 Palate & Texture

  • Full-bodied and concentrated, yet elegant. The palate delivers rich red fruit flavors—raspberry, plum, red apple—woven with spicy, earthy tones and a creamy mousse .

  • High acidity and notable chalky minerality drive a focused, saline finish

🍂 Finish

  • Impressively long, structured, and vinous—smoky with lingering berries, spice, and chalk‑driven tension

🌟 Style & Scores

  • A gastronomic Meunier rosé built for enthusiasts: deep, savory, and layered.

  • ~94 pts from Wine‑Searcher for the 2018 vintage; praised for its “berries and cream” richness and pairing potential with meaty/oily fish

  • John Gilman (View from the Cellar) on the similar Soliste Chardonnay noted depth, complexity, and impressive grip—likely reflecting this rosé’s pedigree

  • 94 Points from Robert Parker, "....layered and vinous, with broad shoulders and a gourmand core of fruit, making it a decidedly gastronomic style of rosé."

🍽️ Pairing Tips

  • Best served 10–12 °C in a white- wine or tulip glass.

  • Pairs exceptionally well with seared salmon, tuna tartare, meaty fish, soft cheeses, or mushroom dishes—match its depth and texture.
