Bruichladdich Octomore 16.3 Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bruichladdich Octomore 16.3 is the purest expression of Islay terroir—super-heavily peated, deeply textured, and profoundly complex. It’s an elemental whisky born entirely on the island, showcasing Bruichladdich’s obsession with provenance, intensity, and authenticity. A visceral yet refined single malt that captures Islay’s rugged soul in liquid form.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Distilled, matured, and bottled on Islay, Octomore 16.3 represents the heart of the Octomore story. Made from 100% Islay-grown Concerto barley harvested from Octomore Farm, it embodies Bruichladdich’s “farm-to-bottle” philosophy. The barley was distilled in 2017 to a monumental phenol level of 274 PPM, among the highest ever recorded in Scotch whisky. Aged for five years entirely on Islay in a combination of first-fill bourbon casks (45%) and first-fill European oak wine casks (55%), the result is an astonishing balance of sweet malt, coastal smoke, and oak complexity. Bottled at 61.3% ABV, non-chill filtered and natural in color, 16.3 is the raw, uncut essence of Islay craftsmanship.
"Smoke and salinity simmer from the start, though aromas of sweet barbecue, nougat, simple syrup, orange peel, and a little must swirl about in equal parts. If the nose is a pencil drawing of flavor to come, the palate opens up into an oil painting—vivid notes of char, fig, black pepper, and Gala apple abound. Cassis, raisin, dark chocolate, orange oil, and soft ashy smoke make for an enchanting finish." 95 Points, Julia Higgins for the Whisky Advocate
