Kilchoman 100% Islay Release 14th Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Kilchoman’s 100% Islay 14th Edition is a distinguished farm-to-bottle single malt that encapsulates the essence of Islay in a refined, mature expression. It marries peat, orchard fruit, and oak influence in a way that feels both bold and harmonious — ideal for fans of coastal whisky who appreciate complexity without losing farm-distillery purity.
Origins & Craftsmanship
Kilchoman is unique among Islay distilleries: it operates as a single farm distillery, growing barley on Rockside Farm and handling malting, distillation, maturation, and bottling all on location.
The 14th Edition is drawn from barley harvested in 2013 and 2014, using the Publican barley variety. It is matured for at least nine years, using a blend of bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks (in a roughly 9:1 ratio of bourbon to sherry).
This edition is the first in the 100% Islay series to carry a formal age statement (9 years) on the label.
The distillery keeps its presentation natural: non-chill filtered, natural colour, and bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof). 700 ml bottle.
Tasting Profile
Nose:
Campfire smoke and briny sea air mingle with citrus peel (lemon, preserved orange), white florals, fresh grass, and gentle orchard fruit (apple or pear). There’s a subtle warming oak spice rising beneath.
Palate:
A creamy, textured entry of vanilla and caramel leads into tropical fruit notes (pineapple, lemon), layered with gentle peat smoke and white pepper. The sherry cask presence lends depth through dried fruit and toasted oak, while citrus zest keeps it lively.
Finish:
Rich and oily, carrying peat, oak spice, and lingering citrus bitterness, with soft echoes of honeyed malt and salted caramel that fade into a smoky whisper.
Food Pairings
-
Seafood & Shellfish: Grilled scallops, oysters, smoked salmon
-
Cheese: Brie, aged Comté, or goat cheese
-
Dessert: Lemon drizzle cake, crème brûlée, or salted caramel chocolate
-
Cigars: Medium-bodied cigars with cedar and leather tones
